I wonder if the whole transfusion bit can be omitted if the vampire just bit and sucked directly.

I only found out recently that it is Count Count in English. It's Graaf Tel in Dutch. He has a German accent here.

Most memorable quote: Pindakaas... Boterham... Poem! Aiaiai, alweer kein konijn in mein hoed.

Translates as: Peanut butter... Sandwich... Pooom! Aiaiai, Alas! Again no rabbit in ze hat.

I didn't know that Count von Count is called that in the Netherlands - sadly I don't think they show 'Sesame Street' in the UK anymore (and if they did I'm not their target audience).smiley - vampire

I didn't see any 'Sesame Street' when I was in the Netherlands a week or so ago either.

The reason that weird accent is associated with Dracula is Bela Lugosi. When he first played the Count on Broadway, he was new to the English language (he'd already acted in Hungarian and German).

Lugosi was from Lugoj in Transylvania, but his native language was Hungarian, hence the funny accent. Johnny Weissmuller was from the same region, but his German-speaking parents brought him to the US as a baby. Which is why Tarzan had a Pennsylvania accent.

And the reason why smiley - pirates are portrayed with their accent is that when the British government forced Disney to make live action films in the UK in the 1950s, the person they cast as Long John Silver in 'Treasure Island', Robert Newton, used a Mummerset accent and so pirates have been portrayed as having Mummerset accents ever since.

smiley - ok I'd heard that! And then a US DJ started 'Talk Like a Pirate Day', so now Americans run around trying to do that accent on 19 September. smiley - laugh

Sesame street was discontinued in 2018 after they had first moved the broadcasting time one hour earlier, making it harder for parents to watch together with their kids. ('Sesame Street, then go to bed' had been a staple quote for decades).

The Dutch version was first aired in 1976.
