I agree.
The whole idea of most (if not all) religions is to put up a framework for defining apparently good and bad behaviour and the consequences of it.
Being brought up Christian (but not practising in the way of going to church regularly), I try to live by the notion that if you do good, good will come to you (eventually).
Thanks for the lesson, I never heard of otiose or polity. Now I know.
