Editor: They cleaned up this bar sign, and revealed the older sign under it, says Superfrenchie. I asked her what an 'eclaireur' was. She replied that no, he wasn't a baker of eclairs. She said he was 'Someone who is sent ahead of a group, to make sure everything is safe / ready / as it should be.'
