Good points indeed about how small differences can have big impact in terms of what the reader gets out of some text 
Reminds me of an exercise my favourite English teacher gave us to do, where we were given a simple sentence to explore - simply changing the emphasis changed the whole meaning. Something like:
The teacher should decide which book we have to read.
The *teacher* should decide which book we have to read
The teacher should decide which *book* we have to read
The teacher should decide which book we *have* to read
