Please, please, please tell me no-one has ever mistaken Benny Hill as intellectual. Or entertainment.

I don't know who Jackie Wright is, sorry.
I think I can safely say that even PBS hasn't considered 'Benny Hill' to be quite up there with 'Poldark'.
I believe my exposure to Benny Hill occurred when I lived in Greece. Since Greek adults at that time tended to watch foreign tv by turning the sound off and reading the subtitles, I have no earthly guess what they made out of it - but at least they didn't hear that song all the time.
