This is good, setting out the link between Mowgli and Tarzan with strong analysis of the context
"Do not forget the K" -
"Little Toomai enjoys elephants" -
"Little Toomai and his father are among the elephants hired to find the wild elephants." - mahouts hired?
" no apparent reason other than to let wagons explode in spectacular fireballs " -

I was only interested in the 1994 version, because they shot part of it in the neighbourhood where my paternal relatives all lived and farmed. I've swum in that pool: it says 'Fall Creek Falls', but it's really Lost Creek Falls, which is part of the park system now, and gets tourists. When I went swimming there, it was a local secret, as it was for our ancestors back to Chief Calfkiller... The film's silly, but Tennesseans spend the whole time laughing at the Cumberland region being turned into India.
Enough maudlin reminiscence. I did read the rest, though, and have a couple of requests:
>>George Sanders is pure gold as Shere Khan...<<
That's the sort of thing you write in a movie review, but it won't help Guide readers, who may not know anything about that actor. Could you change it to something like 'critics praised the performance of George Sanders'? Or say why his performance as a tiger was otherwise remarkable?
>>This highly robust weapon is one of the greatest rifles ever designed...<<
Can you replace the adjective 'greatest' with one that is less subjective and more informative? Explain why the rifle was historically important.
Footnote 6, about the Big Rock Candy Mountain, doesn't tell us anything we want to know. How about telling us something we might enjoy knowing about Kandy Mountain? Such as that it's located in a region known for its tea plantations and the Temple of the Tooth, which houses the sacred relic, the tooth of the Buddha? I mean, I'd be interested in that tooth...

PS: I meant to say - good job explaining Kipling's attitudes to the general public. Nice perspective!

Happy World Elephant Day!
I've made some changes as you suggested which hopefully will meet with your approval. If you're ever at Kandy in Sri Lanka, why not enrol on one of the British College of Applied Studies courses that are accredited by the uni I work at, that I spend last year doing the work to set up (all the stuff that needed doing by someone who didn't get to go out)?
They're one of our academic partners and offer BSc (Hons) courses in stuff like Accountancy and Finance, lots of computer stuff and also
Global MBA and MScs in Marketing as well as Project Management.

About the courses! Having taught Cambridge Certificate in Greece, I appreciate the chance those teachers are getting to teach in nice surroundings. They could at least have given you one round-trip ticket to, er, 'inspect' or something. You could then boast that you'd been to 'Ceylon's isle, where every prospect pleases, and only man is vile.'
I like all the changes, but I still wish you'd take that 'Big Rock Candy Mountain' reference out. It jars, and it's confusing to a reader, who is being confronted with more than enough info here. It would be different if that song was in one of the movies, you see? But it's not. And most people wouldn't think of it, so saying 'Not to be confused with...' is also confusing. Besides, every time I read that sentence, I want to stop reading this and go and look up factoids about 'O Brother, Where Art Thou?', where the 'Big Rock Candy Mountain' DOES show up...
Probably the way you feel after the previous reference to 'From Greenland's Icy Mountains'.
Thanks for throwing in Lost Creek. I was telling my sister and my nephew about this entry yesterday, and my nephew brightened. 'That's the one I fell into as a kid!' (We know it as 'Ben White Falls', which is the old-settler name.)
'Yes, and that's why we gave you 'The Jungle Book' as a graduation present,' laughed his mom.
