Butte was mentioned in Jarrad Diamond's book. :"Guns, Germs and Steel".It is one of his examples of a collapsed economy and society...due to copper exploitation.:
The day I was there it was raining, cold and dark. The town's streets were deserted. The window poem remains evocative.
