That is an accomplishment.
Now I see two ways where it could go after that.
Everyone aware of your empty in-tray dumps stuff in it, so you have to start all over again.
You have no work left so they fire you, being obsolete.
I hope neither happened.

I didn't think it was possible to actually empty an in-tray – certainly not something I've ever managed

Yeah...
At least in this case I knew the redundancy was on the horizon, so it was just a matter of personal satisfaction to be able to empty the in-tray before then. My team did celebrate the achievement, so that was the best that could be hoped for
