Great cartoon! Panel 2 is especially brilliant!
That was one advantage "in my day" 
that there only ever seemed to be one choice of chocolate advent calendar so my sister and I got the same - mostly we got 24 chocolates, but it was a special treat one year when there were 25 including a bigger one for Christmas day itself

It's based on personal experience - you can probably tell... 
When I was young I had one 
advent calendar – it was of The Snowman – 
which my mum kept for years. And every year she'd wash the plastic tray, buy a cheap bar of , melt it and pour it back into the tray. Cheaper than buying a new calendar each year, and better too.

I did suspect as much!
That was a clever idea to remake the advent calendar - glad you enjoyed the different type of chocolate 
(advent calendar chocolate was rather distinctive-flavoured - one a day was quite enough for me)

Yes, the used in advent calendars is presumably long-life – it tastes almost, but not quite, entirely like real
