A Conversation for Writing Right with Dmitri: Do They Know That?

The Joy Of Peer Review

Thank you for this - well said!

h2g2 can accommodate people who want to write for themselves, so they are the only ones who will read the pieces again later, but it also offers the opportunity for people to write for other people.

You can assume readers will share a curiosity about ‘life, the universe and everything’ but you can’t assume people will share your dialect, as the stats say, so word choice is important. If you read what others write, you can find a shared vocabulary as a starting point, and can then introduce new words, if necessary, by defining them. You can use film references, or whatever your favourite topics are, and they may make sense in context even if the reader is not familiar with whatever it is, or they may cause the reader to get confused, so that is something to think about.

And the best bit about h2g2 is the peer review opportunities - asking people to give you feedback from their perspectives helps to make your writing clearer and easier to read, so you can convey information more effectively.

That’s the Joy Of Peer Review for me smiley - biggrin
