FWR:

Love the details of the cannon wheel in this one DG. The tones of the wood contrasting beautifully with the metal. Experimenting with framing by close cropping can produce some lovely images, never be satisfied with a photo, cropping brings out hidden beauty in the main subject that can be missed in a full frame image.

Is it my imagination, or is there something poignant about this picture?

The old cannon stands in a peaceful park, on a beautiful summer day. smiley - smiley But it saw service in a battle, where the guns thundered, and men and horses screamed and died. Gettysburg perhaps?

Looks more of a modern replica field gun than a civil war cannon?

More details please SuzyQ, there's a story in this pic!

I'm trying to find out, but not having luck. There are several artillery pieces in the park, and they're all authentic and rare in some way - one is a captured German gun from World War I. I think the one in the picture's really from the Civil War, but right now, it's behind the Fried Pickles booth and I can't go check.

I definitely vote for the 42nd Hooverville Militia, who distinguished themselves at the Battle of Fredricksburg Starbucks. smiley - winkeye

'Up rose old Barb'ra Fritchie then,
Bowed with her fourscore years and ten,
'Shoot, if you must, this old grey head,
But spare the pumpkin spice,' she said.' smiley - run

Caiman raptor elk - Inside big box, thinking.

I don't want to advertise any specific chain, but would like to mention the battle of Hamburger hill.

smiley - laugh Personally, I don't know why anybody wants to fry a pickle, any more than I understand why the Glaswegians fry Mars Bars. But it's something they do at this booth at the annual fair which is going on. The booths are parked around the courthouse for about 10 days, ruining the town's diets.
