Excellent entry, very well done, and an excellent read!
Please clarify "cannons and ropes are on display".
Are you referring to the cannon and the recoil ropes, or the cannons and the ships rigging.

I've added a bit more about the display - there were coils of rope, not attached to cannons and not part of the rigging. Perhaps they were for docking the ship, I'm not sure, but I hope my description is clearer for you now

All ships had a rope store below decks as ware and tear or breakage was always a possibility.
Rope could be repaired at sea and the sales could be repaired and patched there were specialist tradesmen (simply called the rope maker and sail maker) as part of the crew. They constantly maintained the rigging.
