Part of me thinks that I should include 'Blade' in this entry to make this one cover 1944-1999 and the second entry (already Edited) to be 2000-2004...

Love the Captain America review - perfect humour! My dad watched all those serials, with their cheesy escapes from cliffhangers, so he would approve, too!

I think I saw The Amazing Spider-Man campy television series as a repeat in my youth - well described! Brian May wrote the theme tune to a radio series with the same name! "It's Peter - he's on the ceiling"

What does the phrase 'a children's film' mean here? Howard the Duck is rated 12?

Hmm - that is a good question about whether Blade fits here better.. On the one hand the concluding sentence leads neatly into the next Entry and the split divides the unsuccessful from the successful period. On the other hand, Blade wasn't exactly a moneyspinner for Marvel so X-Men was the film that really started the trend...

The version of 'Howard the Duck' originally released here in the UK was a PG version marketed as suitable for children. In 2008 an uncut Director's Cut of 'Howard the Duck' was released in the UK for the first time, which is rated 12. Even the PG version isn't really suitable for children.

Ah, yes PG is rather a wide category...

Film rating is a mysterious art - I was OK with films like Who Framed Roger Rabbit when I was younger than 12, as a lot of it just went over my head, but now I am older than 12 my imagination is able to run away with me in PG land. Jurassic Park was utterly terrifying, and even the animated film Igor contained scenes that were exceedingly disturbing... I'm glad to have been able to read about Howard the Duck rather than watching it, anyway

Just checked this again, and I think it reads well as 1944-1990 - makes it clear that things progressed slowly until the next Entry from 1998 onwards
