The picture is of my hometown of Sandown – taken from Ferncliff Gardens - although the pier looks completely different now since the large pavilion was built at the dry end. This is how it appears today:

While there is still some shipbuilding at Cowes, it is at a much reduced scale – no more destroyers, but they do still build catamarans. The fishing trade's virtually gone although shellfish remain a local speciality.
Quarr got its name from being a Limestone Quarry, used not only to build Winchester, Chichester and Canterbury cathedrals but also some was used to build the White Tower at the Tower of London.
