The J Peterman style brought to mind the style of the 'handy product' catalogues I get in my disability-related magazines.

Again, the descriptions talk to 'you' as the reader, but there is a strong focus on the practical rather than the aspirational as the target audience is different from the J Peterman audience...

"If you have difficulty sitting in, or rising from any chair, this jumbo portable cushion will be an absolute godsend. The super-comfy foam cushion raises seating height by a full 10cm (4"), making rising or sitting a lot easier for you. And because it's so light you can take it with you from room to room. It's encased in a washable polycotton cover. Ideal for armchairs, wheelchairs, kitchen chairs, office chairs, etc."

There is clever choice of words, too - the Free Gift with Every Order is a 'beautiful crystal heart pendant on a rose gold *tone* chain' so it sounds good but they're not giving too much away smiley - laugh

smiley - rofl I love it! This, too, is an art.

That cushion sounds useful right about now. Skeleton's out of whack again....smiley - laugh

Yes, how to describe all those cheap give-away tchotchkes...smiley - headhurts Work for writers. This, too, is professional writing.
