Maybe we can suffice by planting the desert so full with solar panels thet the ensuing shadow underneath will do the rest. (maybe use some of the power to pump desalinated sea water for extra irrigation, maybe add some nutrients) The problem is that if it works, you end up with a forest filled with obsolete solar power panels and killing off all specific desert dwelling species.
