The beast was at least half an inch long!

Wow indeed - the photo reminded me of the Wolf Spider (3ins diameter) that I unfortunately encountered in a bathroom last week Half an inch I can cope with, but I'm not sure I'd get quite that close even then! 
I like how the electric rainbow effect picks out the hairs on its legs - fascinating detail!
