I think one of the problem with journals is that they get very boring. 
I keep a holiday diary which tends to go like this: "It was grey and overcast in the morning. We went to LeClerc for shopping and bought some nice sea bass (bar in French)."

I agree: *that* kind of diary is better kept for private consumption.
