CS Forester said, "Only connect... " when it came to story writing, but this applies to science and technology as well as art. Everything advances through making connections to what was not there before in the world or the mind (insights / actions that build our knowledge or build the real world). In the same way it devolves, through breaking these connections or stays the same, through ignoring the possibilities of connection.
