This is one of the last maps before the British and Dutch petitioned that because Germany didn't actually have any good beaches there, the name "German Ocean" should be changed.
The Danes proposed "West Ocean" but the British found this confusing. Eventually, the Dutch Noordzee/North Sea was accepted locally, although American cartographers kept "German Ocean" for some time, because they didn't get the memo.
