h2g2 The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: Earth Edition

Ok chaps we create entries! So there is a question why dont we get some of them "OUT THERE"? Instead of waiting to be found.

Here is the idea, is it possible to get the subjects of our entries to promote H2G2!
We could start with an approach to the subject of the entry
EG The Isle of Wight Steam Railway A87805768


The overall winner is the I.O.W Tourist Board spending big money prompting the Island with throw away flyers and visitor guides every year but they need promotional information. They good promotional material to entice visitors to visit the island.

1 Most "interesting things to see and venues" have one thing in common their guide books are quite basic average and no expansion references to enhance the basic content.

2 There is not mush additional additional reading listed in them.

3 Printed information for good, well researched promotional costs money!

What if we could offer is to supplement their promotional information with links to a selection of our entries relating to their site(s), with information about the previously mentioned Isle of Wight Steam Railway. What if we could promote H2G2 some way in this tourist publication by of repayment and if it works some perhaps cash.

Because we're a non-profit website, possibly?

As a matter of fact, we do promote our entries through social media. They are tweeted and FB'd daily, also Instagrammed. Any relevant event gets a 'Hey, we have a Guide Entry on that!' on Twitter.

On the other hand, as a member of h2g2, YOU could always write to the IoW Tourist Board and point out that they are heavily represented on h2g2, giving them links relevant Entries which they could use on their websites. Just out of public-spiritness, though.

You could also follow us on Twitter, and retweet our promotional tweets, which are invariably quite witty and informative...

OK understood not profit making, just thinking about raising our profile.
What about the H2G2 logo and the website details by the site owners? I dont believe members should negotiate or approach folk like the IOW tourist authority for and on behalf of H2G2 would be wrong as we are not appropriate representatives, and could massive problems for those who are official H2G2 decision makers.
If H2G2 were to ask me to allow the IOW tourist board to use an entry I wrote on behalf of H2G2, then that would be a different matter.

If there is any merit in this idea, its the H2G2 Eds who should run with it.
Its just a suggestion and I would never be offended if a suggestion was not workable for whatever reason, its only a suggestion for consideration from someone who dose not know how H2G2 works, you are generous enough o at least consider it and reply.

Good point! I didn't mean to imply that other sites could use our content - that's not allowed without express permission - just that sharing links is always fine. And welcome! We love being cited, and it happens.

And seriously, if you're on social media, we appreciate retweets, likes, and support!

Thanks for the idea, though - we'll pass it on to the Core Team. They might think of a way to incorporate it in some form.

It looks we are thinking the same way.
It would be nice if they were to put something like this on their flyers and/or web sites!

Seriously: If you have Twitter account - doesn't cost anything - you can 'follow' other accounts you like.
