Your smileys look good on this Entry!
I did well on the matching here - only mixed up Van and Volley
Good to see a couple of vlees in here!
I should have guessed vaail, but was taken in by the opposite option...
"zo I ended in kind o'raainbow fashion."
"everyone's favourite implement, the dung prong" Indeed
Wow, even Percy Goddard Stone is no stranger to the old violence in words... "Bein' allus a man vor peace." - hmm...
Some good red herrings in this main round - I got 3 wrong.
Unusual adjective to describe the aaternoon with the cows - I guess that was the one that had to be sneaked past the Filther! I see it featured in the S round, though, and I guessed it meant something to do with bad weather.

Surprisingly the Filther didn't object to 'sluttish' (meaning freezing, numbingly cold) or 'backside' meaning 'Farmyard by the house'. No, it objected to the original title of the Quick Fire Round, where all the words have had V substituted for F. The title which contained the letter 'F' (which the letter V was a substitute for) and the opposite of 'on', showing that the letter F has gone and been replaced.
When we realised that this innocent phrase was causing the problem, Dmitri said, 'I would NEVER have guessed that!'
Don't be too hard on Stone, who is telling a story in rhyme. A lot of his work was extremely anti-violence, particularly anti-war.

Ah! That is interesting that the filther went one step beyond in not just banning the phrase but also the euphemism for it... I think the euphemism is quite strong in its own right, and could invite questions about what F means, but still it's not one I would have thought of to ban...
The verse needed a couple of readings, there - I misunderstood who was doing what and thought it was adding injury to insult, but 'a' is 'he' and the violence is punishment for the vlout, yes. Stone is very thoughtful of the maades

Yes – to clarify, the Carter's Mate hits the drunkard who is tormenting and insulting his maid (with 'a' meaning 'he') after having first asked him to go home. He's not telling his maid to hike home, insulting her and then smacking her in the face!
