A Conversation for Agricultural News: Mushrooms in Normandy!
Just don't eat them!

It's been a good year for mushrooms.
The red and white one is easy - fly agaric (amanita muscaria)which is poisonous, but hallucinogenic rather than fatal.
The rest I wouldn't know - so the rule is don't eat them!
We have stopped in a wood on the way to Rouen and picked edible mushroms (mainly ceps - boletus edulis)
Just don't eat them!

My mother had a rule: if it grows outside, it's a toadstool. Do.Not.Touch.
This is sound advice in North America. I know of a mycologist who perished with his entire family from eating mushrooms they gathered - and he had a PhD in the subject!

Don't eat fly agaric. Just don't eat it. It is fatal.
And while we're on the on the subject, please read this. Nicholas Evans is the betselling author of 'The Horse Whisperer'. I've been meaning to write this story up for the edited guide one of these days, but I still find it too shocking to tackle.
