May Create: Dad

FWR shares a blast from his personal past: a poem written by his son at age 13. It's cool when they surprise you like that. We think it's part of building a better world.

Sitting around the dinner table last night talking to the kids about school. My son tells me he's had to write a poem about someone he admires. Very surprised and extremely delighted when I was shown this....

Dad

Between his hands
the camera rests, clicking away.
Under my window a constant clicking sound
when the camera takes a shot at the amazing view.
My Dad, taking photos, Looking around.
'Til his index finger on the button,
like a snake waiting for its prey.
He comes back inside
through the double doors, still clicking.
The camera nestled neatly on the tripod,
the stand against the soft ground
was stuck in firmly.
He took shots
at the tall tops
of buildings across the River,
the bright sun behind.
To click, yet again, at the view,
loving every second.
But I've no camera to follow him.
Between my finger and thumb
a controller rests.
I'll click with it.
