A Conversation for Writing Right with Dmitri: Fact Checking for Grownups
Another way to get in a mess over research?

I can think of another way to get in a mess over research.
1. Decide you're going to write a story set in, say France during World War 2.
2. Get lots of books out of the library, read them diligently and write lots of notes.
3. Realise that much of this information is irrelevant and what you actually needed is information about people's everyday lives - clothes, household items, tools, weapons...
Somebody said research round your writing, rather than write round your research.

"The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is a wholly remarkable book. It has been compiled and recompiled many times and under many different editorships. It contains contributions from countless numbers of travellers and researchers."
