This was interesting reading - I hadn't heard of this film before

"Squareonthehypthenus" smiley - laugh Should there be another 'o' in there, or is that how it is spelt? Ah, I see you have a few different spellings in the Entry, so this needs checking.

The Differences from the Book section wasn't fully clear to me on first reading.

The pirates are mentioned, but they don't seem to have been mentioned before. You also mention Uderzo and Goscinny but you haven't said who they are.

Does the film not mention trades union at all?

"The village becomes a tourist attraction, with its demolition on the tour guide's itinerary" What does that mean?

Superb linkage in the Cast section, even if I do say so myself smiley - biggrin Is there a link that you can put on C-3PO to explain who he is to the uninitiated?

In the Historical Perspective section, do you want to include an introductory paragraph to say that the historical details in the film are good?

"Mannekenpix's" smiley - laugh The names are excellent puns indeed!

The Connections section could also do with an introductory paragraph before the list. What are menirs?

"•Obelix drinks a whole drop of magic potion" - a cup?

"There were also a large number of Italian slaves, for whom class-based rather than race-based3." - this sentence seems unfinished.

Nice ending smiley - ok

I'm a big fan of 'Asterix' – my history degree's Roman study was probably about 40% Asterix, 40% 'I, Claudius' and 20% walking all along Hadrian's Wallsmiley - winkeye.

Sadly the 'Asterix' films tend to have limited release outside France and the French-speaking world. Although the film was made in 2014, it wasn't released in the UK until the end of last year.

I've made some changes to the 'Differences from the Book' section to hopefully make it clearer.

I did wonder about the cast section about how many names to include. But then I thought I'd add more names than normal because the names are part of the joy of the book, and also as far as I know, no-one else has included this much detail. Not imdb or Wikipedia have listed the cast in both English and French editions and I don't know any other website that has, so this gives h2g2 a chance to be the best in the smiley - earth.

I've also added a few more words as introductions to those sections you've identified, so read through and let me know what you think.

smiley - ok Excellent tweaks

In the trades union paragraph, it sounded like the legionaries whip the slaves, so it was a bit confusing.

"Even though his actions do not always bare that impression out" - bare or bear?

smiley - ok

Good points those, hopefully it is clearer now as I've re-written those bits.

Zarquon's Singing Fish!

Bluebottle,

Some suggestions for improving the entry:

2nd para of ‘Plot’ – “Although at first the Gaul's use Getafix's magic” -> “Although at first the Gauls use Getafix's magic”

1st para of ‘Differences from the book’, the arena's master of ceremonies Showbusinus -> needs a comma after “ceremonies”.

3rd para – “The book mocks trades union” – should this be “The book mocks trades unions”?

“Yet whenever the slaves get a concession the legionaries,” -> “Yet whenever the slaves get a concession, the legionaries,”

1st para after the table, “although none of the actors have appeared” – I would have written, “although none of the actors had appeared”

Last para of ‘Historical Perspective’: “torture, branding, collared or death,” –> should this be “torture, branding, being collared or death,”?

Again, I enjoyed this entry. smiley - smiley

No, I hadn't seen that smiley - cheers - lovely article. Will read again. Isn't it interesting that some of the English names are better than the French ones, although I do think that Ordralfabétix has the edge on Unhygienix, as it brings in the sense of smell.

One of the entries I'm thinking of doing is about Historia Normannis - Normans and Anglo-Saxons up till King John and Magna Carta. Little Fish has been introduced to lots of contemporaneous history through this.

One interesting thing I found out when I went to see Little Fish doing combat at Carisbrooke Castle was that one of the women in the 'living history' part was wearing pattens (sort of clogs that go under your shoes to protect them) that were hinged. I knew what pattens were, but not that they got that sophisticated.
