Gnomon - time to move on

Hi BB. You know I don't like this sort of Entry, so I'm not going to praise it, but each to his own. I can, however, help improve it. So here are a few tweaks...

Content:

the final Beatles concert, at San Francisco's Candlestick Park on 29 August 1966 -- did they really not give any concerts after 1966, or was that just the last concert at that venue?

--------------------------------
Choice of words and Grammar:

he had George deported for being under 18 and accused the remaining Beatles of arson, with Paul and Pete were deported.
-- this isn't grammatical, and could be phrased better.

getting to 32 - do you mean 'getting to number 32 in the charts'?

with a duet with Elton John released -- this would be better as 'in a duet'

Versions of this song appear on Live at the BBC, On Air, on Anthology 1 -- should be 'and on Anthology'

George and John continued to work with Phil Spector -- with Spector

A 1961 Chuck Berry number that the only other Beatles performance is found on On Air.
-- this is ungrammatical. Try:
A 1961 Chuck Berry number that the only other Beatles performance of is found on On Air.

'I'm Gonna Sit Right Down and Cry (Over You)' (July, 1963) -- why do you have July 1963 after the title? You haven't got a date after any other title.

Other songs only existing recording by the Beatles is on this album. -- this is ungrammatical and confusing. I think it should be:
The only recordings by the Beatles of some other songs are on this album.

--------------------------------
Repetition

Please reword the following to remove or reduce the amount of repetition in them:

The Star Club closed in 1964. Fascher frequently tried to re-open the Star Club

left the tapes with a sound engineer friend and consequently forgot all about the tapes

learnt of the existence of the tapes at a Mersey Beat revival event he was hosting. After recovering the tapes from the engineer, Williams searched for investors to help turn the tapes

This song was written as 'To Know Him is to Love Him' by Phil Spector, who had been inspired by the memorial on his father's gravestone, 'To Know Him is to Love Him'.

John Lennon sang this song with his skiffle band the Quarry Men on the day Paul McCartney met John Lennon

The Beatles regularly performed the song in 1957-1962, although this is the only recording of the Beatles performing it, although waiter Fred Fascher performs the lead vocals.

John in particular liked to imitate Vincent and the Beatles had met Vincent

--------------------------------
Typos:

were off too 'crummy' a standard -- 'off' should probably be 'of'

they only one gave one performance

A sing by Ada Benso

as he always sung it --> as he always sang it

--------------------------------
Punctuation:

on the album, it is strange -- change comma to semicolon

they broadcast on the BBC, this is the only known recording -- change comma to semicolon or split into two sentences

Despite their never releasing it as a single in the UK, in the US, the song was a number one for the group on the Cash Box and Record World charts
-- the comma after US makes this confusing. Remove it.

--------------------------------
Date Formats:

11 February 1964 --> 11 February, 1964
6, July 1957 --> 6 July, 1957

Thanks for the thorough read-through, despite the dislike. Judging how the related entries in Peer Review sunk to the bottom and haven't been commented on for six months, I suspect that your opinion on this sort of entry is in the majority smiley - winkeye

Your comments were all straight-forward and so I've made the appropriate tweaks.

Surprisingly, the Beatles really did not give any concerts after 1966, and I've added a footnote about that.

It's easier to comment on a short entry than a long one. The length of yours probably puts people off. But lots of mine have gone many months without comments too.

I enjoyed this - interesting to learn about bootlegs as well as this specific album smiley - ok

Just a few minor things I spotted:

Herr Ober is the waiter.

"John in particular imitate Vincent's performing style and the Beatles had met him twice earlier in 1962, with John asking for his autograph on the first occasion when Vincent performed in Hamburg. Vincent described this with the words, I had a nice band backing me up [at the Star Club]. They're called the Beatles. Gene Vincent was backed by the Beatles in the Cavern on 1 July."

This paragraph needed reading twice - perhaps break up the sentences a bit to make it clearer what happened when?

What link did Eddie Cochran have to the Beatles?

"Beatles also perform on the Live at the BBC album. This song was not on the original UK version of the album."

I think this would be clearer if it read:

"Beatles also perform on Live at the BBC. This song was not on the original UK version of the album."

smiley - ok

Thanks for your comments there, I'm pleased to confirm that I've added a link to Elton John, tweaked the bits I've been asked to tweak, especially the Gene Vincent bit and added a little more about the great Eddie Cochran.smiley - ok
