Hi BB, thanks for rescuing this
Hope you'll forgive my sub-ed hat for these tweaks:
Did they ever existed outside Greek poets and historians' imagination?
= exist
Herodotus claimed the outer walls were 90 kilometres in length, 25 meters thick and 98 meters high.
I was concerned about the "90km" there but it appears to be correct, however the "25m thick" should be 25ft thick according to a Bible history website.

>>The brick wall was 56 miles long, 300 feet high, 25 feet thick<<

Thanks for those corrections, I've changed accordingly
I've even found a h2g2 article to link to on being swallowed by a whale.

This is an interesting article .It does seem likely that some ancient accounts combined accounts of impressively fertile terraces and accounts of great monuments and ended up with hanging gardens.
One quibble. In the section headed 'Search', you mention that Dr Koldeway's description the hanging gardens placed them too far from the Euphrates twice.

>>He then published his discoveries and claimed to have found the area that he felt must be the garden, in King Nebuchadnezzar's southern palace, although its location, being a distance from the Euphrates, did not quite match Plino's description.<<
That's the first mention of Plino. Who is "Plino" mentioned there?

Thanks for the read through - I've made the suggested changes, and corrected the 'Plino' to 'Philo'. All these names are Greek to me...
'you mention that Dr Koldeway's description the hanging gardens placed them too far from the Euphrates twice.'
It's obviously twice as far if you go from the Euphrates to the gardens and back again
But you're right, I tweaked that. And ended up deleting the 'Plino' I'd corrected anyway as it was part of the repetition. Oh well...

Ah, I somehow managed not to read this while it was in Peer Review
I read it now, though, and really enjoyed it - congratulations!
