Bray Head Loop

The loop is about 6km. If you start at the carpark in Greystones, it is 4.5km to the start of the loop so this adds a round trip of 9km to the journey making 15km. If you start in the Car Park at the bottom of the old chair lift, it is only 6km all together.

6 is a bit short while 15 is quite long.

Park in the DART car park. Turn left as you go into the car park and go as far to the left as possible. There's a pedestrian exit from the car park there.

Walking north, take the second arch under the railway bridge, and follow the coast until you get to the harbour. At the Harbour Café, turn right along the path marked Bray Cliff Walk.

Follow the Cliff Walk for about 3 kilometres?? Path goes through fields, then there's a wiggle and it is among trees. After another 1km???, you'll see a stone wall on the left, and the path moves away from the wall, then bends back towards it. You'll see a gap in the wall with a footpath heading up the hill, and a sign beside the gap telling you about local wildlife. Take the path up the hill.

This path goes straight until it reaches a house on the left and a gate in front of you. Just before the gate, the path swings sharp to the right and continues to climb the hill. This path starts out quite big but gradually gets smaller and harder to follow. Try to keep as straight as possible. When the path reaches the rocky area at the top of the head it is very difficult to find, but keep as straight as possible and you can't go far wrong. You will need to scramble over the rocks to the top of the hill. At the top of the head, it meets a much bigger road. Follow this road north (to the right) as far as the concrete cross (1.4km).

After admiring the the view from the cross, go back on your tracks about 10m, then take the path down the hill towards Bray. This winds its way down through the woods and can be quite steep in places. Generations of sightseers have used this path and as a result it splits up and rejoins many times, but it shouldb't be too hard to find. Eventually it becomes a surfaced path with steps that brings you through a gap in a wall onto the cliff path. If you want, you can add a couple of kilometres to the walk by talking a detour here down to Bray for refreshments and back.

Turn right onto the cliff path and follow it back towards Greystones and the car.

"The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is a wholly remarkable book. It has been compiled and recompiled many times and under many different editorships. It contains contributions from countless numbers of travellers and researchers."
