Well not being an expert on the subject I can't say anything (technical) other than, it was a Very good read, kept my attention to the end AND I learnt some thing interesting (part of which was the origin of star names). That makes it as far as I am concerned just about perfect smiley - applause

Hello Gnomon - this is a good Entry on a scintillating (for me) star. I know it's blue but I don't see it as blue, it's so close to the horizon (and variable) that it positively sparkles different hues and it is an awesome sight through my binoculars, one of my favourite target stars in fact. Also, Vega is the enigmatic "star" of Carl Sagan's novel and film Contact - one of my all-time favourite films. I wonder if this is worth a mention in your Entry smiley - smiley

The title doesn't grab the attention of a non-astronomer, I wonder if it could be a little more attention-seeking, after all, there are lots of blue stars? How about "Vega - the Luminary of the Lyre" or an intriguing "Vega - One-time Pole Star" or a play on words - "Vega - the First Photographic Star" smiley - smiley

smiley - ok

Hi GB.

If you look at Vega in the summer when it's high in the sky, it is very clearly blue and doesn't twinkle. In fact I would say that for most people it is the only star in the sky that looks blue. Hence the title.

I could go all poetical and call it the Summer Sapphire Star.

I don't want to put in a large "vega in popular culture" section as you have already covered that. I'll link to you entry.

This is very interesting and clearly written. smiley - smiley

One question. Any idea why Vega has an unusually simple chemical composition.

One nitpick smiley - biro. In the section titled 'Blue Star'you have omitted an 'is' after Vega.

Ok, it's now the summer sapphire star, to see what feels like.

Thanks mvp for spotting the typo. Fixed.

I don't have any idea why Vega has a very simple chemical composition.

Oh, smiley - star of wonder, seen during the night
Star in the sky that's the fifth most bright
25 light years away, Vega
You're a fairly close neighbour
Shining intensely with a dazzling blue light.
