I got lost in the archives this afternoon, while I was waiting for an email. I started with Cyrano, who mentioned the fact that somebody had met some aliens, and I couldn't resist.
Read, discard, whatever. I just thought I'd share.

A very very enjoyable read. Certainly whets one's appetite and brings up questions as to whether there weren't more of these sort of visitations. Would also possibly throw a new light on some of the stories in the Bible, etc

I hope that will bring more people in to comment now. BTW - I have no idea how the entry could be improved at all. The tone is fine with the little asides, and, of course, there are no typos.

I love this story! Guys in togas and shiny shoes... maybe they needed them to get home?

This is great.
I get the impression of Renaissance Milan as a kind of melting pot, where the beliefs of the Middle Ages, such as the existence of angels (and there isn't much difference between the description of and these visitors) mixed with the more rational approach of the modern age with its interest in science and technology. There must have been lots of new and eccentric ideas about. (Though Fazio is lucky the Church didn't start asking questions about his 'familiar spirit')
In the sentence 'Fazio Cardano was a mathematician and a jurist' 'mathematician'has got misspelt.

Brillient entry... and I knew who the author would be, before I'd clicked through
Weirdness was so much more delighfully about, in the 'days gone past'
Do we not have an entry on tin foil hats, to link to from the entry? (surely, we must* have an entry on tin foil hats?)
Was a good read, straight though, and kept my attention

Thanks, 2legs.
Alas, we do not have a tinfoil hat entry. I wrote one - er, Nigel wrote one - but it was only included in the EG on 1st April.
A serious *cough* entry would be welcome. We couldlend you the illustrated instructions on how to make one from .

*adds 'sensible entry on tin foil hats' to the list of entrys that's not been looked at in nearly two years* Must must must, start riting again I got stuck on my novella about Beccles, which may end up like some kind of giant multi-faceted multiple-entry type thing, but I got stuck If only I had a deadline.... I could be really enjoying the wooshing noise it made, as it went past... I keep getitng dis-tractored from writing

Talking of links and entries as yet not written, I am shocked to see that we don't have an entry on Leonardo da Vinci. Can't believe that Gnomon never wrote one. There are a quite few that come up if you search "Leonardo da Vinci" where he is obviously mentioned, but none connecting them all together.
In this entry, A1133407, the author expresses a suspicion as to where he got his ideas from. Implying aliens?

I enjoyed this too
I did have a couple of queries...
The Greek style robes or togas sentence read oddly to me, as togas are Roman style robes.
Also the mention of the Prime Directive - is that what they called it, or is that you referencing Star Trek?

Glad you liked it.
The source called the garements 'Greaak-style togas'.I put the word 'togas' in quotation marks to show that we, of course, know the Greeks didn't call their togas. I'm afraid we're stuck with the 15th Century's wrong-headed ideas about historical fashion.
And yeah, t he Prime Directive crack was me being snarky. Because what they described was exactly like the Prime Directive.
Key: Complain about this post
