smiley - biggrin Another topic I know nothing about, so I enjoyed reading about it. Here are my thoughts as I went along:

"cathedral staff, the college, an army garrison, the county gaol and prisoners of war crammed into the half-finished royal palace" - the royal palace was converted into a college and offices as well as a jail and garrison, is that right? Crammed indeed...

"a charity dedicated to apprentice Wintonian orphans
" - is that a charity for apprentices, or a charity that aimed to enable orphans to become apprentices?

"Two of his uncles, Bishop Trimnel and Dean Trimnell" - that sounds funny, as I presume their first names were not Bishop and Dean respectively, but that referred to their titles in the Cathedral... Similarly with Bishop and Doctor Hoadly.

The sentence "After her constant campaigning and writing from her bedside" about Florence Nightingale intrigued me - I think I know that it meant Florence wrote while in bed because she wasn't well, but I'm not sure...

"A new house in West End Terrace was donated to the hospital to provide nurses' with accommodation, a problem that continued as the hospital expanded" - What problem? The need to provide housing for all staff?

"in 1959. In the end the original building, now called the Butterfield Wing after its architect, was adapted rather then removed or replaced, although in 1954 a new canopy to shelter patients arriving in the front courtyard had been constructed." - is that saying that the original building had not been altered before 1959 except for the simple addition of the canopy?

"Something which did not need to be replaced was the hospital's MRI Scanner room, yet sadly in December 2011 a fire did just that" - the fire decided the MRI Scanner room did need to be replaced?

smiley - ok Excellent

SashaQ, I'm always amazed that you have enough time to so thoroughly read all the rubbish I churn outsmiley - winkeye

You'll be delighted to hear that I've reworded, well, everything you asked me to address, basically. If there's any confusion remaining, let me know. And in case you were wondering, Bishop Benjamin Hoadly did indeed name his son 'Benjamin', just to confuse people.

Your Entries aren't rubbish, but I do admit I'm impressed by how you churn them out... After a hard day, there's not much I like better to do than get my teeth into a nice meaty Entry smiley - biggrin

Excellent changes smiley - ok

I did like your turn of phrase about the fire (or rather how I read it, at least) deciding that the room needed to be replaced even though it was quite new... The sentence is clear now, though.

'some of these are housed in temporary buildings which the hospital aims to demolish and replace as funds become available'
I was in the hospital yesterday, and they've started demolishing the temporary buildings in front of the hospital's main entrance, so the area now looks like a building site.
Apparently the old run-down 1970s mobile huts are going to be replaced by disabled parking spaces. When the old eyesores and JCBs have gone, it'll look much better.
