This Entry was inspired by a conversation with other h2g2 Researchers, especially those who live away from Britain, and are missing the traditional mince pie. There is a partner Entry, which describes how to make candied peel which have a link made to it when these are both Approved. (if Approved)

The nice part about this was that it didn't have to be made ages in advance, didn't contain alcohol and basically had a rather fresh taste, as opposed to the traditional mincemeat.

This is an entry on how to make mincemeat from ingredients that may not be the ones found in traditional recipes, but yet that does still turn out to taste authentic. It has *loads* of brandy in it.
Basically, its a huge adaptation (my own) of tradition and others I've researched, plus a mound of effort and work on my own part in trying to make mince pies here for my friends and neighbours.
I've not made any attempt to link to Vip's excellent Entry, as that uses shop mincemeat and ready roll pastry.

This looks excellent. Having wandered round French supermarkets looking for such common place things as wholemeal flour and ginger biscuits, I can understand the frustration.
Just a few questions.
You mentioned 'loads of brandy' in your post 4, but the recipe contains no brandy. Is this an omission, or am I just getting confused?
You say that mince pies contain no meat twice, in paras 1 and 3 of the section 'What is Mincemeat'?

I've reordered the ingredient list, to make it clearer regarding the brandy.
I've rewritten the mentions of meat in these pies.
