Well London Paris, Manchester and Reims .... I hope that Superfrenchie along with MMF have started something that will continue in the future; Reims is a lovely city and seems the perfect place for any future French meets! smiley - magic

Warning!!! question coming -- next:

Is the guide written only in English, and if so has there been any serious talk of translating anything into another language ( French would seem an obvious candidate ) -- and rather than heaping such a burden onto any native French speaking researchers, is there some way
that any researcher could help translate into a given target language -
possibly as a way of learning the language in question??

You can call me TC

That, MMF, is a huge smiley - canofworms which I even remember discussing with Mark Moxon at a meet way back in the dark ages. When we joined the BBC, the dampers were put on any use of foreign languages (because the mods would have to be able to understand everything.) Up until then, we were allowed to converse in furrin, but no entries were actually written in them at the time.

It would be wonderful, and more than miraculous, if all our 10000 entries (so far) could be translated into umpteen languages.

I must be careful what I say because I have been yikesed before for opening this smiley - canofworms

O gosh - sorry, Loftskywalker - it was you who asked the question.

The title of the thread got me confused.

Yeah my fault! What ideas came up before regarding all this?
(Your right: i'm a great one for asking questions and running off smiley - biggrin)
Is there anybody working on this, or seriously discussing these ideas ?

It seems to go against the spirit of 'Life the Universe and Everything': i mean:- 'Life the Universe and Everything' In English! (?) smiley - laugh

There must be a core of articles that could be translated, to make a start? Some entries would be much easier than others to translate - but i mean there might be a group or catagory of entries that could form a core/seed of translated entries?

I like the idea of getting us English speakers to do the translating - thereby learning the target language - and having a native speaker og=f each target language mark the translation much like a teacher marks and corrects a students homework; obviuosly the guide will have to be corrected until it is right! smiley - smiley

Key: Complain about this post
