Gnomon - time to move on

It's still a bit haphazard.

You seem to say that Grim's Ditches run north from Hampshire through Berkshire, Oxfordshire, the Chilterns and Middlesex. I'm not very clear on where things are in England, but consulting a map, I can't see any way that these line up. And again later in the section "The Other Grims Ditches" you describe them as if they were parts of one feature. But I can't see this. What do you think?

You seem to say in about five different places that we don't know the purpose for which the ditches were built. You should state this clearly in one place, and then make some suggestions as to what they were for, making it clear that some people believe these, but that there is not conclusive evidence.

I've no idea what the final bit about the Cursus monument is doing there. Is any of the Grim's Ditches a Cursus? If not, you shouldn't be telling us the cursus.

Is it Grims Ditch or Grim's Ditch? Please be consistent. This is the sort of thing that subeditor can't be expected to know so you have to get it right.

Are Cerdic and Cedric the same person? Are they two spellings for the same name or have you mistyped one?

No chance they connected but there are some persistent ideas they might have

Revoked some of the referances as requested

Its not classed as a cursus but it is so similar it is worth a mention

Hi Bob and all reviewers smiley - smiley

I've been unable to find "Grims Ditch" - only Grim's Ditch, can you confirm the correction, please Bob? smiley - ta

Grims ditch is in the older books so I stuck with the old spelling. Grim`s ditch came in when we were taught to write proper in the 1920`s. I prefer Grims but it makes no difference. smiley - smiley

smiley - ok

I'm just thinking of your readers when this hits the Front Page, or years down the line when people use the search engine, it's best to use the modern spelling smiley - smiley
