... Did 'They' know which bit was meteorite and which bit was chrysoprase or even just quartz. They'd be precious too...

They would, Peanut.
I don't know, Rod, what they knew. I do know they saw the rocks fall from the sky, and made associations. I forget where in the Southwest it was, but they found an ancient gravesite where the tribal people had buried a piece of meteorite in a feather cloth to show it respect.

Ah, Peanut - yep, I can just see it:
"Matched set of meteorites, five graded sizes of (approx) 10, 20, 30, 40 and 50 Kg"
Dmitri, I can imagine that, too - a god fallen to earth... a wonder-full place we live in, eh?

this is off topic I know but what I find truely shocking is the amount of archaeology and fossils you can buy privately and it all seems terribly unregulated

I bet you could get free S&H with bulk purchase.
Seriously, though, this Graphic Guide Entry aims at doing what a Guide Entry might do, only visually - tracing the history of human understsanding of meteorites.

Thanks, Peanut.
I'm hoping maybe we'll get some other Researchers interested in doing similar graphic entries.

A noble aspiration, DG.
I, too, am enjoying the series.
but I hope you're not looking in my direction as my paper & pencil need a straightedge to rule over 'em.

Rod, I couldn't draw a straight line with a ruler.
These comics are untouched by human hands. It's all digital work.
