To say thanks for weekly entries. I enjoy looking round churches although usually smaller ones and in an interested but more casual way. I like the local history particulary and we like to visit villages

Anyway, I would like to say that you have made me think about looking differently. For instance I generally go to see churches when they are not being used or when there are visiting times and haven't considered that sitting at the back while a service was happening. I felt that would be intrusive smiley - erm, and yet why not on occasion. I am not disrespectful and there are some parts of church I miss and would appreciate to experience again in a life time, just differently so why wouldn't that be ok?

Also sometime we get the opportunity to visit bigger churches, I hope you don't mind that if you have written about it that I could take a print out with us, because we don't really want a guide book but a guide would really add to our experience

Once again, thank you for sharing and making me think

Feel free to print - unless The Post has some copying policy of which I am unaware.

For these big churches evensong or morning prayer are really good as they are (with a couple of short exceptions) just segments from the bible. Bits of it is set to some haunting music. Often they will read large chunks of the bible ... it can be odd hearing the adulatory of King David with the subsequent murder of his lover's husband (Uriah the Hittite) being read in sonorous posh accents in these huge buildings.

I go into small churches too but I would struggle to write about them. Peterborough's wooden roof has been painted the same way for 900 years! That is just nuts.

We love it if people print out smiley - thepost and take it with them.

You get extra points if you leave copies on the Underground...smiley - whistle

Screen printing for t-shirt transfer is particularly recommended...smiley - run

(Seriously, evensong is always a lovely way to participate, meditate, and enjoy the ambiance of a good church building. I used to work at a Benedictine college. Almost as much fun as 'favourite hymn time' growing up, but with nicer architecture than American gothic.)
