I've just read your article, with which I entirely agree
And, earlier today, I found a post from the tutor who leads my creative writing course. She quoted this:
.."..as for the amateur, his difficulty is that his work, once on the page, hardens as cement hardens and can no more be changed. When he has learned to change it, to consider it in in this light, to consider it in that, to hold the subject warm in his affections at the same time that his mind appraises the form – when that time comes, he is no longer an amateur. "
