Warning: This entry has a lot of objectionable stuff in it:
Sex
Rock'n'roll (well, a tiny bit)
Tinfoil hats
It's drug-free, though. Nobody drank anything stronger than Russian tea.
Let me know if it makes sense. I hope it makes you laugh.

Very interesting. (rises from behind a bush, drawing on his cigarette.)
I notice you leave out my favorite on-line search source, Google Books (advanced search) I do not see any glaring errors, but I will read this again
Good choice

Good, thanks.
Yeah, google books is a good way to read online, as well. I have found many an out-of-print tome there, too.

Another good, entertaining entry!
I will say that I noticed one minor spelling error; Credentialled should have only one l.

Interesting and readable! You might just give a clue (true or false, not important) as to what first started you in the direction of Hutchins Hapgood? Without some tiny propulsion we may wonder, wait, how did we get here?
This sentence is slightly awkward: 'Hutchins Hapgood' is not what you'd usually call a Jewish name.
I can see a Groucho response forming in the air and darkening the sky. Maybe:
'Hutchins Hapgood' does not look like a particularly Jewish name
?

I changed 'credentialed'.
I reworded the name sentence - although Groucho would have agreed that 'Dr Quackenbush' sounds Jewish, but 'Hutchins Hapgood' does not. It sounds like somebody who stepped off the Mayflower and got muddy. It is, in fact, a humorous-sounding English name, just like 'Elwood Babbitt', which makes us laugh.
Good point. I didn't think about needing an excuse to be reading the book in the first place - you're right, why would you? I have provided the genuine reason.

This is an interesting, amusing article.
I wondered whether your primary concern was to tell us about Hutchins Hapgood, or to encourage us to go trawling in archives for interesting stories.
It seemed to me that the Hapgoods were products of their time. I wondered if you followed the history of other, intellectual families of their time, you might find similar stories.

You sussed me, MVP. I was trying to show a map of how one can use online resources for fun and profit. But this trip was one I enjoyed the other day, and I thought the Hapgoods were delightful.
I'm sure you could do this with other families, which is why genealogical databases are so much fun, as well. This is just scratching the surface.

Glad you mention this; let me know the next time you plan to have a few spare hours in Philly. I have a project you may find interesting. I suspect it will involve chasing down city directories from the very early 19th century, If you go by Laurel Hill I can give his location. There are a few gaps and serious errors in the record from my research, over several years study.

PS. He is not a relative, but is mentioned in the edited guide.
