I mean, something odd about signing up to obey a code of conduct, when we have already agreed to abide by rules and guidelines in joining the site at the start.

The Volunteer Code of Conduct is a bit more than the site rules. As a volunteer you get access to commercially sensitive information, etc. It's a bit like agreeing to company rules when you start a new job. There's nothing unusual in it at all

If you take a look at the entry that is at the top of this conversation thread, you'll see the differences between the basic House Rules and the higher standards of behaviour and equally importantly, the requirement not to disclose confidential information.
Volunteers are in a position of trust with various confidential matters. Their behaviour, both on and off h2g2, should be that of exemplar members.

Obviously the first one is to stick with the House Rules but the rest is basically agreeing to abide with the volunteer structure, how it works, to commit to doing the level of volunteering you're signing up for (so the work can be spread around, and know it'll get done).
It's worth having a quick read, there's nothing sinister in there at all

Yes, just re-read the entry. Makes sense. It's a while now since I've been subbing, and I'd forgotten all about Team Leaders and the like. Carry on.

"The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is a wholly remarkable book. It has been compiled and recompiled many times and under many different editorships. It contains contributions from countless numbers of travellers and researchers."
