Good point on names. The ones who survive the test of time have distinctive voices even when they do not have great talent, and the Edited Guide will be around for many years I hope.

Webby did you watch part 2 of King George V and Queen Mary last night? Had seen a lot of the clips (and knew the story) but some was new to mesmiley - ok

Yes, GB, I watched both parts and found it fascinating. It is worrying how often the 'righful heir' doesn't actually make it to the throne though. This country could have taken a very different path if things had gone according to plan.

Looking at Queen Mary I was struck several times by her similarity to Princess Anne as she is now. Did you notice?

There has only been one book I couldn't finish reading in the past and that was the one written by King Edward Vlll - his character came across so strongly i couldn't continue reading, and I have thanked my lucky stars ever since that he abdicated.

It was the eyes, I think, and that look of consternation. I did enjoy the movie of her in her niece's garden, and hearing how she tried to have a tree removed and didn't succeed. smiley - laugh

We would still have the same Queen, even if Edward VIII had made Wallis his queen. They didn't have children, so Elizabeth would have inherited the throne in May 1972, and we'd be celebrating her Ruby Jubilee this year instead of the Diamond. smiley - winkeye

I was thinking further back than that GB, but you are right. The new succession rules are long overdue, since our best 'rulers' have been mostly women smiley - biggrin

Oh dear! I just checked, and yes, you were pipped to the post. Never mind, this means the Entry is double recommended. It makes the GEs job easier to know when something is well-received.

Your Guide Entry has just been picked from Peer Review by one of our Scouts, and is now heading off into the Editorial Process, which ends with publication in the Edited Guide. We've moved this Review Conversation out of Peer Review and to the entry itself.

If you'd like to know what happens now, check out the page on 'What Happens after your Entry has been Recommended?' at EditedGuide-Process. We hope this explains everything.

Thanks for contributing to the Edited Guide!
