A Conversation for Utility and the Muse

Oh my Darling Clementine

My mother used to sing a lot of songs with us when we were children. AND my parents had a record player, so we listened to their records. It influenced my musical taste greatly, all those very old songs are familiar to me and I love them. I guess you are right when you say that music is about associations.

Oh, and my sister and I used to sing 'My Darling Clementine' a lot. smiley - biggrin

smiley - laugh You DID? In English or in German?

I shouldn't be surprised. You would laugh at some of us who studied German, and then developed a tendency to go around singing 'Mein Vater war ein Wandersmann', or worse, 'Eisgekuehlte Coca-Cola'. smiley - winkeye

I've only ever known it in English. Is there a German version?

We used to sing: ja mein Schatz ist wunderschön, ich lieb sie schon lange..., too. And now you've stuck tunes in my head. smiley - rofl

smiley - rofl Awful, these old tunes. The one with the flounder is terrible.

I don't know 'Clementine' in German, I just wondered.

Wait, maybe I can find Tom Lehrer's verrsion in Italian.

Here it is:

Lehrer's theory is that folk songs would be better if they were composed by professionals. Or not. smiley - tongueincheek
