That's all I'm bothered about. Do we get "Incredible Hulk" style Hulk, who likes to Smash things? Or are we lumped with "Ang Lee's Hulk" style Hulk who likes to leap around being a big green metaphor for daddy issues?

I don't think the two are mutually exclusive. Anyway, I think you will be satisfied - 'Hulk smash' is in the dialogue, though obviously I won't reveal who says it...

I'm not too fussed about who says it. Just as long as Hulk lays waste to large swathes of terrain.

Not sure about the 'laying waste', but the smash there is is quality smash - plus the Hulk is also responsible for probably two of the best jokes in the film.

Hulk smash good.
Saw it yesterday. There's one terrible flaw in this film.
It's 2012.
If they'd have released it when I was about 10, then it'd probably have replaced Star Wars in my affections. But, alas, I'm too old and set in my ways.
Loved it. Very jealous of the kids in the audience. Not least because nobody will look at them funny when they're running around on Tuesday lunchtime pretending to be the Incredible Hulk.

Yeah, but can you imagine this film with 1990s special effects...? To say nothing of the fact that Marvel would've had to remortgage the entire country.
Interesting to speculate on whether the enormous success of this movie will lead Marvel to branch out - if they handle it right, I can't see any reason why a Defenders movie with Mark Ruffalo, Johnny Depp, the Rock and, um, someone painted silver couldn't be just as successful.

I did think that. Should probably have said that "if I'd have been 10 when this came out".

I felt kind of the same about the Thunderbirds movie (which seemed to be aimed at kids much more than the TV show, in a strange way). I think I said at the time that I'd been waiting 20+ years for it to be made and now it actually had been, I felt 20 years too old for it... You know, it felt more elegant and profound at the time...

I think even a ten year old would've been bored to tears by the terrible Thunderbirds film...

Awix Posted May 8, 2012
Well... I'm not sure to what extent I stand by my initial (rather positive) review of it. It certainly isn't a film that has aged well, nor does it appear to have done the Thunderbirds (or Anderson) brand any good in general. Hey ho.

Out of interest, how many reviews do you look back at after a year or two and think "what the hell was I drinking?"

Awix Posted May 8, 2012
Usually it's ones where I was really excited about the film and wanted it to be good so much I blinded myself to the flaws - the Matrix sequels, the Ang Lee Hulk, things like that.
The most obvious one where I gave a film a hard time then watched it again years later and thought 'Hey, this is actually pretty good' was The Bourne Identity. Although, come to think of it, I was a bit equivocal about 28 Days Later too...
