The days of stepping out of a job and stepping into another started to stop in the late 70's. Bosses used to provide work canteens where you got meals at a reasonable price and some gave them for free which isn't done anymore. In fact the days of the hour lunch break has gone to an end and you're lucky if you get a half an hour and the lunch break was paid for in previous years but not any more so you are working an extra 5 to 6 hours for the same pay.
