I don't have anything useful to offer, but I can see exactly why you are feeling all those complicated mixed emotions and thoughts.

Thanks Ben. It's confusing and often contradictory, but that's the way it goes, I guess. Hopefully in a few days I'll laugh at all the thought I'm putting into it!

Hello Vip smiley - fairy

I got here too late to wish you well but you have been in my thoughts smiley - zen

To misquote you, it is confusing and contradictory and hopefully in a few days you will laugh about at it all, I'm just going to say welcome to parenthood smiley - winkeye

all the best

Oh, I missed this yesterday, so it may all be over by now - I hope so! I hope your son got his head in the right place - it can happen ever so quickly when it does.

I think the last few days before birth are actually the most emotional, as you - or rather I was - dreaded it happening and wished for it to happen both at the same time.

I am watching this space and awaiting good news.

smiley - goodluck

I'm in awe that you can write about it all with such clarity and frankness.

Thank you. smiley - smiley It took me a while, but I do feel better for doing so. Two good nights of sleep definitely helped though, I wasn't nearly so eloquent on Sunday...

Fight those hormone changes, girl! smiley - biggrin

Glad you're sleeping, anyway. That implies that smiley - cupid is too.

And I'm very pleased you gave him a 'normal' name. Seems that nearly every other parent on my Facebook page has gone in for something hideous, and then I get the blame when I can't tell who is the mother of Eloise/Elyse/Elissa/Alysse (who have all been born to friends of mine in the last 24 months smiley - rolleyes)

Oopsie! I included a baby name in there which I'd forgotten you'd chosen not to share with the site. Damn Facebook. Sorry. And sorry Mr(s) Moderator.

Having a name that everyone can spell was one of our first criteria, as our surname is going to give him that problem for the test of his life anyway. No need to make both of his names difficult to start with!

In hospital we ended up next you a couple who had decided on a name but not hire to spell it-they had given out at least three versions to different visitors before we got ourselves discharged. smiley - facepalm
