That's true.
"Redd out", though - it...well, it *scares* me. It always seems to imply a much more drastic and relentless operation than a simple "tidy up" would be. It conjures images of wardrobes being moved, furniture taken out, maybe even skips being hired and treasures disappearing!

My house could do with a redd out at the moment - but I'll maybe wait until spring.
It is indeed a big thing though and I have trouble parting with stuff so redd out frightens me too. A good redd out involves much movement of furniture, many, many black bags and a week off work.
