A Conversation for Transgender and Intersex Olympians
Horizon Book

Back in England I have an old book based on the TV Science series Horizon. I think it's from about the 1980s. In it each chapter dealt with a different aspect of gender. There was an island, I think of the coast of South America, where children were assigned to their apparent female gender, but many of these children were reassigned when they reached puberty and they developed male genitals and other male characteristics. It was common enough for people not to make much of a fuss about it and treated it as something that just happened to some people. I don't believe the people concerned were able to have children.
Anyone else come across this?
