Can't see them ever dying out entirely; not unless we enter a situation where our media is controlled to the extent of China or North Korea for example . Even if the commercial ones become more popular, there will always be a nich and oasis for user generated stuff

Maybe user-generated sites should include free spellcheckers...with a button for textspeak...
But that's a good point. 'Authoritarian' regimes probably hate ugc. After all, it's not called the 'democratisation of information' for nothing.
