I notice talk up above concerning long threads putting strain on the servers
I was surprised as I thought only the page what's link we click on loads - is that right?
So how does a long thread put a strain on the servers if it is not totally loaded?

If you click on a link, the whole thread is loaded. Back when h2g2 belonged to the BBC this put a massive strain on the servers when a thread had many posts.

Okay, but where is the whole thread loaded? Just on the server but also on my browser?
If it were loaded just on the server, after the first click by the first person then would not it be already loaded and not be a burden?
And if it were loaded on my browser would not all the pages of that thread show up faster (when I click in the backlog) than a page from somewhere else on the site that I had never accessed before?
