A Conversation for Introducing the Volunteer Teams

It strikes me that The Post is an incredible resource sitting on the front page with an active editorial team and a readership of some vague number.

Should this be the vehicle for general communications?

Each of the main groups could put out a couple of paragraphs once a week explaining how things are going - maybe including links to detailed discussions for those who are interested.

It would create a two level communications system. The public, high-level one would give assurance and help forge the essential (to my mind) universal community. The second, more detailed level on pages such as this would be about getting work done.

Since Bel is already doing so much work, it seems a shame not to use her.

Hi Phonecian Trader

There's been a lot of thought given to the Post, not least because Pastey (one of the original founders) was part of the h2g2c3 team bidding for the site and now because Dmitri is one of the Guide Editors and Bel is helping with the Comms team (who aren't in fact listed on that page, ho hum).

You are right, weekly updates are the way to go. It's really important that people can find new information all in one place. It's nowhere as beautiful as the Post, but this is the page we are using: A85834173

We want to work really closely with the Post, and we are already doing so with the Saving the Best for Last competition A85719298, but the Post has its own purpose and voice, and it would be wrong to appropriate it.

Indeed, appropriation would be bad.

However, buying column inches to be fitted between the film reviews could be very effective.

The trick is, as I see it, to strengthen the independence of the various institutions of h2g2 by reaffirming their independence and their purpose. If h2g2 has four or five autonomous, strong, easily identified "institutions" running when it goes into free-fall then I like its chances.

Conversely that means if you have a weekly paper, then use it, re-enforce it and thereby publicise its independence. Not publishing news in the media may be its own message (apologies to Marshall McLuhan)! However, I take it for your post that you are aware of all of these things.
